Bethel’s De La Rosa is Runner-up in MSC Cross Country Championships-Cats Finish Third
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Cumberlands captured the 2023 Mid-South Conference Women's Cross Country Championship Friday at Phil Moore Park.
The Patriots captured their fourth-straight championship and 15th overall with 27 points.
Cumberlands' Alina Boshchuk took home the individual title, crossing the line in 20:56.3 finishing over 42 seconds faster than the runner-up. With her performance, Boshchuk was named the MSC Runner and Freshman Runner of the Year.
Bethel's Andrea De La Rosa finished runner-up with a time of 21:39.2 while Cumberlands' Heather Durrant finished third with a time of 22:00.5. Cumberland's Mercy Kibiwott and Freed-Hardeman's Madison Grant round out the top five with times of 22:06.8 and 22:16.9.
Freed-Hardeman's Derrick Spradlin was voted the MSC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year while Cumberlands' James Overholser earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
Freed-Hardeman finished runner-up with 98 points. Bethel and Lindsey Wilson each had 101 points, Bethel finished third by having the tiebreaker over Lindsey Wilson. Cumberland rounds out the top five with 106 points.
Campbellsville finished sixth with 126 points while Georgetown rounds out the team standings with 138 points.
Cumberlands earns the conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Championship on November 17 in Vancouver, Washington.
A total of four MSC individual runners earned at-large bids into the National Championship. De La Rosa, Kibiwott, Grant and Georgetown's Kirsten Geary all earned the bid to compete.
The top seven runners were named to the First Team All-Mid-South Conference with the next seven runners earning Second Team honors.
