Volley Cats Split Games in Day One of Rhodes Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats split their two matches on day one of the Rhodes Classic in Memphis Friday.

The Lady Cats fell to Austin College 3-0 in their early afternoon match. No stats are available currently for the match.

The Volley Cats rebounded in the late afternoon tilt, beating Lyon College 3-1. After dropping the first set 25-27, Bethel fought back to win, 25-17, 25-23, 27-25.

Dominika Skoneczna led the Cats with 17 kills and 15 digs. Gabi Dominguez had 13 kills and 21 digs. Nuria Calvo had 10 kills. Sami Parker contributed with 16 digs while Madelyn Woods finished with 15 digs. Setareh Valibeygi was a force with 45 assists and 13 digs.

Coach Starla Cupples said, "It was a hard-fought match but I'm proud that the girls didn't back down. I feel that we are growing as a team and hope to see that continue tomorrow."

Bethel finished the day at 3-4 on the season.

The Cats play again on Saturday in the classic meeting Mary Hardin College at 2 p.m. and Rhodes at 4 p.m.
