Strong Second Period and Late Goal Propels Lady Cats to Dramatic Road Victory

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats opened their season on the road against Thomas University Sunday. The game was played on the campus of Middle Georgia State in Cochran, Georgia at Nesmith Field.

A strong second half by the Cats and a late goal by Ainhoa Chirivella gave Bethel a dramatic 1-nil victory over Thomas.

Chirivella scored with 30 seconds remaining to give the Cats the victory. Carla Cebollada had the assist.   

The teams battled to a scoreless tie after the first period. Each squad had six shots in the period. Thomas had a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal but Bethel's Alicia Perez was big in net with five saves.

Bethel outshot Thomas 8-4 in the second half. The defense held the Night Hawks to just two shots on goal in the decisive period.

The Cats finished with a 14-11 advantage in shots and had seven corner kicks in the match.

Perez finished with seven saves in the game.  

Bethel remains on the road at Middle Georgia State Tuesday for a noon start.
