Lady Wildcats Beat FHU in Mid-South Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Opener
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Seventh-seeded Bethel defeated 10th seeded Freed-Hardeman 4-0 Monday afternoon in the opening round of the 2022 Mid-South Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. The match was played at Wildcat Stadium.
The Lady Cats will meet UT Southern Friday in quarterfinal action at 2 p.m. in Pulaski. The FireHawks are the No. 2 seed in the tournament. UTS defeated Bethel 3-2 back in September in McKenzie.
Bethel enters the match at 7-6-4 while UTS is 12-3-2.
The Cats took the lead on a first period goal by Ainhoa Chirivella. Nathalie Rojas had the assist. Chirivella scored again on an assist from Carla Cebollada, The Lady Cats took that 2-0 margin to the locker room at the half.
Rojas scored in the second period to give Bethel a 3-0 lead. Hilda Moyo was credited with the assist. Natasha Dudley scored in the waning seconds to give the Cats the 4-0 win.
Bethel had a 29-4 advantage in shots and a 22-3 margin in shots on goal.
The highest seed remaining following the quarterfinals will host the semifinals and the championship. The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 9 with the championship taking place on Nov. 11
The tournament champion receives one of the conference's two automatic bids into the NAIA National Tournament. If Cumberlands wins the tournament, the tournament's runner-up receives the second automatic bid.
