Lady Cats Fight to the End but Fall to UTS
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The No. 6 UT Southern FireHawks built up a 3-nil cushion and held on to edge the (RV) Bethel Lady Wildcats Wednesday night in Wildcat Stadium. UTS won 3-2 to move to 6-2-1 and 2-0-1 in the MSC. Bethel dropped to 5-2-2 and 1-1-1.
The FireHawks jumped out to a 1-nil lead on a goal with 15:43 left in the first period. Yuki Watari scored to give UTS the lead. Anais Stephany was credited with the assist. The Hawks would go on to lead 1-nil at the break.
Watari would strike again nine minutes into the second period with a goal and the Hawks took a 2-nil margin. Ten minutes later Estelle Badoedana Ekada scored and UTS led 3-0.
Bethel would not go quietly into the night. At the 72:32-mark, Bethel's Carla Cebollada put the Cats on the board. With less than four minutes left, Bethel's Anna-McCall Johnson on an assist from Natasha Dudley and the Cats trailed 3-2.
The FireHawks had a 15-11 advantage in shots and a 11-6 margin in shots on goal. Bethel's Alicia Perez had eight saves.
The Lady Wildcats return to action Saturday traveling to No. 15 Cumberland University Action begins at 1 p.m.
