Lady Soccer Cats Fall in Season Opener at Middle Georgia State
COCHRAN, Ga. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats opened their soccer season with a 2-1 loss Saturday at Middle Georgia State in Cochran, Georgia.
MGA took a 1-0 lead at the 32:33 mark of the first period as Ellie Russell scored to give the Knights the lead. That would be the only score of the first period. Middle Georgia had a 9-4 advantage in shots. Both squads had two shots on goal.
It was a scoreless second period until MGA's Miagh Downey scored at the 83.33 mark to give the Knights a 2-0 margin. Bethel's Elvira Martin scored a little over a minute later to keep Bethel in the match. MGA (RV) held on to take the victory and moved to 2-1 on the season.
MGS had a 17-9 margin in shots. Both teams had six shots on goal. Bethel's Shanay Ricketts was credited with four saves.
The Lady Cats play host to Texas A&M Texarkana in their home opener Saturday at 2 p.m.
