Lady Cats Extend Win Streak
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The (RV) Bethel Lady Wildcats continued their winning ways with a 56-50 victory over visiting (RV) Brewton-Parker Wednesday night in Crisp Arena. Bethel won their 11th straight game and in doing so, snapped BPU's 11 game winning streak.
The Cats moved to 11-2 while the Barons dropped to 12-2. Their two losses are to Bethel which owns an 13-0 all-time mark against BPC.
Bethel is 161-32 all-time in Crisp Arena.
The Lady Cats led 31-16 at the half and appeared to be in good shape with a 44-28 lead with just over two minutes left in the third quarter. The Barons caught fire and outscored Bethel 20-2 to take a 48-46 advantage at the six-minute mark of the fourth quarter. The Cats, behind Madison Hart battled back to win. Hart scored seven of her 11 points in the last several minutes. Hart finished with a team high 12 rebounds.
Anya Patterson came off the bench and was a huge key with 12 points and five assists. Alyia Lee proved to be a tough match-up for the Barons as the senior had 11 points and eight rebounds. Kalynn Howard continued her excellent play with 10 points and eight boards.
Bethel was 12-of-21 from the free throw line. The Lady Cats had a commanding rebound advantage at 47-31. Madison Evans led BPC with 14 points. Angel Mc Rae had 11 points and a game high 13 rebounds.
Coach Chris Nelson said, "This was a tough game, and we knew it would be going in. Even when we went up 16, we told the ladies they would make a run and they did. I thought our defense let us down in the second half and we need to improve on ghat to close out games. Brewton-Parker is well coached and a team you will see in the national tournament. They are well coached and play hard. We will enjoy this for a few hours and get ready to hit the road."
Bethel returns to action next week playing in the SEU Classic in Lakeland, Florida. The Cats meet Southeastern Monday at 2 p.m. and Ave Maria Tuesday at 2 p.m.
