Lady Wildcats Win Fifth in a Row with Victory over Oakwood in FHU Classic

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats won their fifth straight with an 83-38 blowout victory over Oakwood Friday afternoon in the Freed-Hardeman Classic in Henderson.

Bethel moved to 5-2 while Oakwood dropped to 1-3.

The Lady Cats broke out to an early lead and led 23-11 after the first quarter. The Cats led 37-24 at the break. Bethel broke the game open with a 29-5 advantage in the third   and never looked back to win by 45 points. Bethel's defense held Oakwood to 14 points in the second half.

Bethel shot 47 percent from the floor and hit 11 three-pointers. Oakwood shot just 26 percent from the floor and was 5-of-22 from behind the arc. The Wildcats outrebounded the Ambassadors 46-35 and had a 26-6 margin in points off turnovers. In points in the paint, Bethel had a 38-18 advantage. The Bethel bench did their part at 41-21.

Madison Hart led the Bethel attack with 19 points and a team high of five rebounds. Kalynn Howard hit a game high four three-pointers and finished with 12 points. Anya Patterson finished with 11 points.

Bethel entered the game averaging 15 assists per outing and finished with 18 in the game. M J Simmons had a game high five dimes in the game.

Nekaya Wiliams led Oakwood with nine points.

Coach Chris Nelson shared his thoughts on the game. "I was pleased with our effort. We had eleven different players score and I liked the way we looked for each other on both ends of the court. It was great to see Kal hit those shots and I was pleased with Madison and how she attacked the lane. Anya and Alyia sparked us off the bench." Nelson added, "Today was good for our team. Oakwood came out really aggressive and was a good challenge for us early on and the start of the 3rd period.  It was a great opportunity for us to work with some different line ups and get some different combinations." 

Bethel faces (RV) Oakland City Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Oakland City lost to FHU 58-42 in a late game Friday.
