Lady Cats Close out Road Portion of Regular Season with Hard Fought Victory at UTS

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats closed out the road portion of their regular season Monday night in Pulaski against rival Tennessee Southern.  The Lady Cats prevailed 65-54.

UTS led 20-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Cats outscored the Firehawks 19-10 in the second and led 35-30 at the half. UTS had an 18-15 margin in the third and Bethel's lead was 50-48 headed to the final quarter.

Bethel had a decisive final quarter outscoring UTS 15-6 to win and move to 17-11 overall and 11-9 in MSC play.  Tennessee Southern dropped to 9-11 in the league and 14-12 overall.

 Back-to-back three-pointers early in the fourth by Jenna Foust and Kalynn Howard broke the tight affair open and gave the Cats a 58-50 margin. UTS would never get closer.  

It marked the second time on the season Bethel beat UTS. The teams met earlier in McKenzie on February 5 with Bethel prevailing 63-52.  Dating back to when UTS was Martin Methodist it marked the 35th meeting between the two programs. Bethel now leads the series 25-11.

Bethel shot 49 percent from the floor and hit nine three-pointers. UTS shot 30 percent and hit five treys. Both teams were excellent from the foul line as Bethel hit 8-of-10 attempts. The Hawks nailed 15-of-17 tries.

The Cats turned the ball over 18 times but had a 29-22 rebound advantage.

Ryann Roberts led all scorers with 15 points. Foust added 11 while Keely Morrow and Mickey Head followed with 10 each. Head grabbed a game high eight rebounds. Faith Sherrow led UTS with 14 tallies. Closing out Bethel's top performers were Millie Bryant with eight points and eight assists. Kyla Taylor finished with eight points.

Millie Bryant finished the game with 1,350 career points and 623 career rebounds. She is 8th in program history in scoring and 9th in career rebounds. Her eight points at UTS enabled her to move past former Bethel great Jackliann Street who had 1, 346 career pints.   Earlier this season she became just the 10th Lady Cat to score 1,000 points or more and collect 500 rebounds or more

Mickey Head finished the contest with 875 career rebounds and 272 career blocks. She has 1, 260 career points with 777 of those as a Lady Wildcat.

Bethel is 16-1 when they outshoot their opponents.

The Cats are 16-3 when they hit more three-pointers.

The Lady Cats are 14-0 when they outrebound their opponents.

Bethel is 13-0 when leading at the half.

The Cats are 10-7 when they have less turnovers.

Bethel is 9 -2 when they score 70 or more points in a game.

After three straight road games, the Lady Wildcats return home to close out their regular season. They host the University of the Cumberlands Thursday at 6 p.m. and face UPIKE Saturday on Senior Day at 2 p.m.
