
Lady Wildcats Continue Home Success with Comeback
MCKENZIE, Tenn. - Fresh off their 61-50 upset victory over No. 3 Campbellsville, the Bethel Lady Wildcats looked to continue their momentum Saturday hosting the Georgetown Tigers. In the end, the Cats did just that with a come from behind 73-59 victory over the Tigers.
Bethel moved to 11-9 overall and 5-7 in the MSC. GC dropped to 13-7 and 6-6. It was the fourth meeting between the two programs that sees the series tied at two each. Bethel is now 138-23 all-time in Crisp Arena.
Going unto the game, the Lady Cats were 0-9 when trailing at halftime. That all changed with a 30-6 dominating third quarter by Bethel. The Cats caught fire behind the shooting of Keely Morrow, Mickey Head and Ryann Roberts. The Cats led 61-42 after three and never looked back the remainder of the game.
Bethel shot 46 percent from the field. The Lady Cats knocked down six three-pointers but did most of their damage with an 36-22 margin on points in the paint. Bethel forced GC into 16 turnovers and had a 16-6 advantage in points off turnovers. Georgetown entered the game with a 13 plus margin in rebounds per game. The Cats matched them with a 17-10 margin in the second half as both squads finished with 30 each in the game.
Roberts led Bethel with 22 points. Head finished with 19 points, six rebounds and five blocks. Morrow came off the bench with 17 points and six rebounds.
Jazzmyn Elston led GC with 16 points. Callie Jackson had 12 tallies while Izzy Lamparty had 11 for the Tigers.
Coach Chris Nelson, in his post-game radio interview said, "This was a nice way to follow our victory over Campbellsville. Each win allows us to improve our position in the league standings. Our ladies played well. I am proud of their spirit and when healthy we are a good team with a lot of good pieces. We have a tough road trip coming up, but I like the way we compete, and we look forward to the challenge."
The Cats hit the road for three straight games. Bethel begins the road action traveling to Lebanon Thursday to meet the Cumberland University Phoenix. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. Cumberland edged the Lady Cats 82-79 in McKenzie on November 20.
