Softball Splits Doubleheader with Phoenix

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – After dropping a doubleheader Friday to Cumberland University, the Bethel Lady Wildcats attempted to bounce back Saturday against the Phoenix.

Behind the pitching of Lauren Reimsnyder who fired a six-hitter, the Cats took game one 2-0. Kinsley Caruthers and Kirsten Eversole drove in single runs for the Lady Cats.

CU took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Bethel's Maria Murdaugh homered in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-1. The Cats struck for three more runs in the third to grab a 4-2 lead. Kalani Kuroda drove in two runs while Kennedy Gillespie scored on a double play ball. Abbie Peach homered in the fourth to cut Bethel's margin to 4-3. In the sixth, CU countered with a six-run inning to retake the lead at 9-4. The Phoenix would go on to win by that score. Bethel was outhit 14-8 in the game and committed seven errors in the contest.

Bethel finished the day 12-22 overall and 3-13 in the MSC.

CU is 20-14 and 8-12.

Bethel travels to Freed-Hardeman on Friday and Saturday for doubleheaders. Action begins Friday at 3 p.m. The teams play a twin bill Saturday at 1 p.m.
