Softball Drops Doubleheader to Phoenix
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – It was the rubber match when the Bethel Lady Wildcats played host to the Cumberland Phoenix Friday afternoon in game one of a four game weekend series. The teams had met 42 times with both winning 21 of those games.
Game one saw a pitcher's duel between Bethel's Lauren Reimsnyder and CU's Kaitlin Higgins. After five scoreless innings, the Phoenix took a 1-0 lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Ashley Evans. Sara Brogdon doubled in a CU run in the seventh for an insurance run and Cumberland won the game 2-0. Reimsnyder yielded just six hits but suffered the hard luck loss while Higgins tossed a three hitter to take the win.
In game two, the Phoenix led 5-0 after four innings. The Lady Cats battled with a single run in the fifth and four runs in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
Cumberland scored three runs in the eighth to win 8-5.

Kinsley Caruthers suffered the loss.
Each team had 11 hits. CU committed three errors while Bethel had four miscues.
Bethel dropped to 11-21 overall and 2-12 in the MSC.
CU moved to 19-13 and 7-11.
The teams play a twin bill on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
