Cats Shine in Redhawk Invitational

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Bethel University Wildcats participated in the Redhawk Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Missouri Saturday.

The Wildcats took a limited field with it being an early season event.

Joseph Skoog had a stellar day qualifying for the national championship in the 1 Mile and the 3000 Meter race. He won both heats posting a time of 4:15 in the Mile and 8:26 in the 3K. The 3K was the meet facility record. Skoog also broke the Bethel school records in these events.

Stetson Childress had a solid day posting a 4:33 in the Mile and a 9:02 in the 3K which is the second fastest time in school history.

Braden Wallace posted two personal bests with a 4:38 Mile and a 9:34 3K.

Cedrion Cook posted a personal best 3K with a time of 9:24.

Owen Crocker ran a 2:05 in the 800 with Carson Warman posting a 2:08.

In the 400, John Jennings started his career off strong with a 54.74 and Deason Jones posted a personal best with a 55.86. Jones also competed in the 200 with a time of 24.64.

Justice Bishop ran the 55 Meter dash with a 7.32.

In the throwing events, Lee Steakley posted a 7.35 in the Weight Throw and 11.10 in the Shot Put.

Hayden Jenkins threw an 11.5 in the Shot Put.

On the ladies side, only one female competed in Saturday's meet with Kaeli Sain posting a 8.04 in the 55 Meter dash.

Coach Brandon Kilburn said, "We had some great performances yesterday in multiple events. It's hard coming off a long winter break to come straight in and compete the first weekend of classes. This meet showed how much work our athletes put in over the break on their own and I am very proud of that. We have to bounce back quickly and be ready for Birmingham Sunday."
