24th Ranked Soccer Cats Open Season with Win at Milligan

MILLIGAN, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats came up just short of making the national tournament last year and that has provided the incentive to get back to their annual goal this year.

Bethel is ranked No. 24 in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 - PreseasonPoll.

The Cats got off to a good start on that goal with a 3 -1 win at Milligan University on Monday night in Milligan, Tennessee.

A first period goal by Nathan Hunter gave Bethel the early advantage. Mountaga Sall was credited with the assist. Two minutes later, the Buffs tied the game, and the squads went to the break at 1-1.

Second period goals by Gregory Cousins and Alvarez Cooper propelled the Wildcats to a 3-1 season opening victory. Luka Mrvic and Goffin Oyirworth had assists.

Bethel's Noberto Lima Vieira had another superb effort in net with five saves.

Bethel had a 20-11 advantage in shots and 9-6 margin in shots on goal.

The Wildcats remain on the road with a match at Bryan College Wednesday with action beginning at 5 p.m. CT.
