Wildcats Advance with Marathon Win over UC

PULASKI, Tenn. – The No. 2 seeded Bethel Wildcats continued their quest for a conference title when they traveled to Pulaski Wednesday to play the No. 3 seeded and 24th ranked Patriots of the University of the Cumberlands. All four top seeds advanced to the semifinals.

The teams battled for 110 minutes with neither able to punch through. The Cats won in a shootout, beating the Patriots 4-1.

The first period was a defensive battle between the two. Each team had just one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes. UC had a 7-6 margin in shots.

Neither team could break through in the second period. Bethel had 12-9 advantage in shots and a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal after 90 minutes.

Neither team was able to score in the two overtimes. Bethel had a 15-13 advantage in shots. Both teams had three shots on goal in the 110 minutes of play.

The Cats (12-3-3) would prevail in the shootout behind goals by Milos Stajkovic, Adrian Musubi, Norberto Lima Vieira and Pablo Ramirez.

The (RV) Cats will meet Lindsey Wilson in the title game Friday at 3 p.m. in Pulaski. Bethel beat LWC 2-1 in Columbia in October.  

Fourth seeded Lindsey Wilson upset top seeded Tennessee Southern 3-1 in the earlier semifinal match.
