Soccer Cats Upset No. 23 Missouri Baptist

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The (RV) Bethel Wildcats are on the very fringe of cracking the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll and they took a big step in moving into the poll as a result of their 3-2 upset win over No. 23 Missouri Baptist Saturday in Wildcat Stadium.

The Cats moved to 4-0-2 while the Spartans dropped their second straight match and fell to 5-2-0.

Bethel grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Sergio Baquena goal at the 7:39 mark of the first period. Mountaga Sall had the assist. MBU tied the match on own goal later in the period.

The Cats regained the lead on a Nicolas Ruiz goal at the 55:50 mark. Baquena was credited with the assist. Gregory Cousins scored what would be the game winner with 13 minutes left. The Spartans scored late but the Cats held on to remain undefeated.

The Wildcats outshot MBU 16-9 and had a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal. Norberto Lima Vieira had three saves for the Wildcats.

Bethel returns to action Thursday hosting Pikeville at 7:30 p.m.
