Cats Win Thriller in Overtime over No. 22 Campbellsville

MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Wildcats won a thriller Tuesday night over visiting No. 22 Campbellsville. The Cats beat the Tigers 3-2 in overtime. 

The Wildcats struck first on a goal by Sergio Baquena who despite being in heavy traffic found the back of the net just seven minutes into the contest. The Tigers answered at the 18:39 mark on a goal by Eleder Goicochea. Campbellsville took the lead at 9:47 on a goal by Sergio Tarrida.  Tom Edge had the Tiger assist.   

Trailing 2-1 in the second, Bethel tied it 18 minutes into period on a goal by Mountaga Sall. Pascal Mohungsi delivered on a pass to enable Sall to get the equalizer.  The teams battled it out for the remaining 27 minutes and went to overtime.

It took just four minutes into the extra period to give Bethel their 9th win of the season. Ruiz scored the Golden Goal to send the Bethel bench onto the field to celebrate.   

Bethel had a 16-11 margin in shots and a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Bethel improved to 9-4-1 and 4-3 in the MSC. Campbellsville saw their six-game winning streak snapped and fell to 7-2-1 and 6-1.

Assistant Coach Abraham Lopez said, "This was a good win today. The guys showed a lot of courage and passion and fought until the very end. Ibou (Diop) Nico (Ruiz) and Rodrigo (Atilano) all gave us top performances. We feel we can keep moving on if we keep fighting together as a team."

The Wildcats return to play Saturday hosting No. 14 Lindsey Wilson at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the Wildcats.
