No. 14 Wildcats Suffer 1st Loss of Season
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. –The No. 14 Bethel Wildcats took their clean sheet at 4-0-0 on the road Thursday to Siloam Springs, Arkansas to meet Science & Arts of Oklahoma. Unfortunately, the Cats suffered their first loss, falling 3-0 to the Drovers.
After scoring in the waning seconds of the first period, the Drovers led 1-0 at the break. They then put the match away with two unanswered goals in the second period.
USAO moved to 5-2-1 on the year. The Bethel loss drew the series even at 2-2.
Bethel had outscored their opponents 10-1 and had three shutouts in a row entering the match.
Bethel outshot USAO 18-12. The Drovers had a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal.
Bethel's Norberto Lima Vieira recorded six saves.
Coach Malang Jarju said, "We are really disappointed about our performance. Conceding a goal with ten seconds left is unacceptable and then not defending at the beginning of the second half pushed us back even more. We are not happy but it's a learning moment and we need to bounce back Saturday with a better effort and performance."
The Wildcats face John Brown University Saturday at 1 p.m.
