Men's Soccer Extends Winning Streak with Win over Shawnee State

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – After a scoreless first quarter, the Bethel Wildcats came from behind in the second period to beat visiting Shawnee State 2-1 in McKenzie Tuesday afternoon. The 18th ranked Wildcats moved to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in the Mid-South Conference. The Bears dropped to 5-5-3 and 3-5-3.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the second but the Wildcats battled back to tie the match on a goal by Alioune Diop. The assist was credited to Pascal Mohungsi. With less than eight minutes left, Bethel's Alphonso Gooden scored what proved to be the game winner. The goal was a result of double assists from Ryan Davey and Brian Mbuani. It was Gooden's 4th game winning goal of the season.

A huge factor in the game was a Norberto Lima Vieira spectacular save on a penalty kick in the first period.

Bethel had an 11-8 margin in shots and a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Bethel plays host to Georgetown Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
