No. 19 Soccer Cats Win Again in Thrilling Style

MCKENZIE, Tenn. –On the heels of their first ever and dramatic win over Lindsey Wilson, the No. 19 Bethel Wildcats returned home Friday hosting Freed-Hardeman. The Cats made it seven wins in a row with a thrilling 2-1 double overtime victory over the Lions.

The Cats moved to 7-0 and 6-0 in the MSC. FHU fell to 2-7 and 2-6.

It was the 9th meeting between the two with Bethel owning a 9-0 lead in the series.

Alphonso Gooden scored his team leading sixth goal to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the second period. The Lions scored with less than five minutes left to tie the match at one all. Neither team would score again in regulation or in the first overtime. Nicolas Ruiz would score a Golden Goal to give the Cats their third extra period win on the season.

Bethel had a 14-6 margin in shots and a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Coach Malang Jarju said, "It wasn't one of our best performances but will take the win and continue to play and work hard. Champions find a way to win and that is what we did tonight."

The Wildcats remain at home hosting UPIKE Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
