Soccer Cats Get Historic Win at Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Going into Tuesday night's match at No.7 Lindsey Wilson, the No. 23 Bethel Wildcats had never beaten the Blue Raiders. The programs had met four times with LWC holding a 4-0 lead in the series. That changed with Bethel's 2-1 dramatic overtime win.

Bethel had taken a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Sergio Baguena. LWC tied the game in the second and the squads went to overtime knotted at 1-1.

Bethel's Rodrigo Atilano scored at the 5:29 of the extra period sending the Bethel bench and team into a frenzy.

Lindsey Wilson had a 24-17 advantage in shots and an 8-6 shots on goal margin.

Norberto Lima Vieira had seven big saves in the match.

The Wildcats remained unbeaten at 6-0 and 5-0 in the MSC. Bethel has an impressive 5-0 road record.

LWC dropped to 4-2-1 and 4-1-1.

Coach Malang Jarju was excited about the win. "Our young men made history tonight. I am so humble and proud of them. Words cannot express my excitement. Our program had never beaten Lindsey Wilson until tonight and the fashion in which we won makes it even more special."

The Wildcats return home to face Freed-Hardeman Friday at 4:30 p.m.
