Cats Open Soccer Season with Win in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Bethel Wildcat men's soccer team used two second period goals and a solid defensive effort to open their season with a 2-0 win at LSU-Shreveport Saturday afternoon.

Pascal Mohungsi gave the Cats a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick. Sergio Baguena scored late in the match on an assist from Callum McKenna.

The Cats had 16 total shots with 10 of those being shots on goal. The Pilots had 10 total shots with seven on those being on goal. Bethel's Norberto Lima Vieira had five saves. LSUS's Louis Owens had seven saves.

Bethel Coach Malang Jarju said in-game adjustments made the difference. "We experienced a tough first period but we used a different approach in the second and the boys responded in great fashion. It was a great effort and I am really proud of our guys and happy with this win."

The Wildcats are scheduled to host Freed-Hardeman in their home opener Tuesday night at 7:30 in Wildcat Stadium.
