
Cats Prevail at Blue Mountain Christian
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Ms. -The Bethel Wildcats traveled to Blue Mountain, Mississippi Thursday to meet an old rival in the Blue Mountain Christian Toppers.
Leading 32-27 at the half, Bethel lost the lead late and then rallied for a 66-63 victory.
Bethel shot 43 percent from the field but held BMCC to just 30 percent from the floor. The Cats hit seven three-pointers and finished 15-of-25 from the foul line. The Cats had a whopping 49-21 advantage in rebounds. The Bethel bench outscored the Topper bench 21-7.
Brennon Marsh led the Wildcats with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Conner Guthrie and Tyler Neely had 10 points each.
Bethel moved to 2-1 on the season while the Toppers dropped to 1-2.
It was BMCC's home opener and Bethel's third straight road game.
It was the 29th meeting between the two with Bethel holding a 23-6 advantage in the series. They first met in 2008.
The Wildcats have won eight of the last ten meetings in the series.
Coach Jeff Britt commented, "We knew coming in this would be a tough game. I am proud of the way our young men hung in there and battled to the very end. We made some big plays down the stretch and survived."
The Wildcats travel to Harris Stowe Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off in St. Louis.
