Cats Come Up Short Versus No. 10 Georgetown
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats played host to the No. 10 Georgetown Tigers Saturday in Crisp Arena.
After their 81-59 loss to the University of the Cumberlands Thursday the Cats were hoping to avoid a three game losing streak but it wasn't meant to be as GC upended the Cats 96-87.
The game featured seven ties and 11 lead changes.
After trailing much of the first half, the Wildcats rallied to take a 48-44 lead at the break. The Tigers had the best of the second half however outscoring the home team 52-39.
Georgetown shot 55 percent in the game while Bethel shot 52 percent. The difference in the game was the play of the Tiger bench which outscored the Wildcat bench 41-12.
Bethel had a 35 -23 advantage in rebounds but missed free throws hurt the Cats as they hit just 28 of 42 attempts from the line.
GC knocked down nine three-pointers while Bethel hit five from deep.
Connor Guthrie had a career high and game high 31 points for the Wildcats. He hit all five treys for the Wildcats. Querrion Gadson finished with 21 points while Tyler Neely had 14 points and a game high eight rebounds. Neely also had a game high five steals.
Six Tigers finished in double figures with Drew Lamont leading GC with 15 points.
Bethel dropped to 12-10 and 8-9 in the MSC. GC moved to 19-4 and 13-4.
Coach Jeff Britt commented, " Credit Georgetown for making the plays down the stretch. We had our opportunities, but we came up short. I thought Connor, Tyler and Querrion sparked us offensively but as a team our overall defense hurt us in the end. You cannot give up 96 points in this league and expect to win."
Bethel returns to action next Saturday hosting league leading and No. 14 Freed-Hardeman at 3 p.m.
