Jarred Walker Joins Wildcat 1,000 Point Club in Bethel’s Road Win

PORTSMOUTH, OH– The Bethel Wildcats hit the road to Ohio Thursday to battle the Shawnee State Bears in Portsmouth. The Cats snapped a three-game losing streak with an 89-76 win. It was a historic night for Bethel senior Jarred Walker.

The Wildcats moved to 12-14 overall and 4-14 in the MSC. SSU fell to 13-13 and 7-12.  Shawnee State beat Bethel 73-54 earlier this season in McKenzie.

The Bears used an 11-0 run at the 10:40 mark of the first half to grab a 22-14 lead. SSU would go on to lead 34-27 but Bethel scored the last 12 points of the half to pull to within 37-36 at the half. 

The Wildcats took a 40-39 at the 18:42 mark of the second half and would never trail the remainder of the game.

Both teams shot 43 percent from the field. SSU hit 12 three-pointers, but Bethel hit 15-of-20 free throws. The Cats had a 39-25 rebound advantage and a 20-7 margin in second chance points.

Walker's lay up at the 6:40 of the first half put him over the 1,000-point mark of his career. He became the 31st player in Wildcat history to score 1,000 points or more. He finished the game with 1, 015 career points.  Walker finished the game with 422 career assists which is 11th all-time in program history. His three steals gave him 218 in his career which is second in program history.

Yassine Zlitni had 21 points. Kamron Rose was in double figures with 15 points and a game high eight rebounds. Jamarius Mayberry contributed with 15 points.

James Jones had a game high 25 points for the Bears. 

The victory marked the 493rd career win for Coach Jeff Britt.
