Cats Drop Fourth in a Row

MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Wildcats dropped their fourth straight with a heartbreaking double overtime 98-90 loss to the visiting Campbellsville Tigers Thursday night in Crisp Arena.

Bethel fell to 10-9 overall and 2-9 in the MSC. The Tigers snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 10-9 and 3-8.  The two squads met back in December in Campbellsville with the Tigers winning 72-68. 

Campbellsville jumped out to a 10-2 lead, but the Wildcats battled back to grab a 21-20 margin. The Cats would move on to a 37-33 lead at halftime.

The second half saw both squads have their moments and streaks. Bethel grabbed a nine-point lead (49-40) with 16:08 left.  A surge by the Tigers however put them back in front at 62-61.  In a game that saw 11 ties and 10 lead changes the teams traded basket after basket and ended 80 all at the end of regulation. Both squads struggled to score in the first overtime and went to the second OT tied at 84. The Tigers then outscored the Cats 14-6 to win by eight.

Bethel shot 43 percent from the field hitting 36-of-82 attempts. Bethel connected on seven three-pointers and finished 11-15 from the foul line. The Tigers shot 57 percent at 35-of-61 from the floor. The Tigers hit just four three-pointers but were 24-of-33 from the charity stripe. The Cats had a 36-32 advantage in rebounds.   Campbellsville had a decisive margin in bench points at 44-13.

Jon Brown led the Wildcats with 26 points. Jamarius Mayberry and Kamron Rose each had 16 points. Mayberry also had a game high 11 rebounds. Hayden Thomas who hit a huge basket to send the game to the second overtime had 11 points. Tyreek Montgomery finished with 10 points while Jarred Walker had eight points.

Five Tigers finished in double digits with Malachi De Sousa having a game high 23 points. CU's Keaston Brown played a huge role in the Tiger win with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. Ross Ryan had 18 points and a team high nine rebounds. Darius Harding contributed with 15 bench points. Peyton Broughton pitched in with 12 tallies off the CU bench.     

The Cats are back in action Saturday hosting Georgetown at 4 p.m.
