
Cats & Tigers set to Tangle Thursday in Crisp
MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Wildcats will attempt to snap a three-game losing streak Thursday as they play host to MSC foe Campbellsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Crisp Arena where the Wildcats have a 114-37 all-time mark.
Bethel takes a 10-8 overall mark into the contest. The Cats are 2-8 in the league. Bethel is 5-4 at home on the season. The Tigers are 9-9 and have lost six straight. They are 2-8 in conference action.
Campbellsville has a 5-2 advantage in the series but is 0-1 in the one game played in McKenzie between the two.
The two squads met back in December in Campbellsville with the Tigers winning 72-68. The last five minutes had a bit of everything, including technical fouls, missed opportunities and turnovers for both sides. The Wildcats shot 32 percent in the first half while the Tigers shot 43 percent from the floor in the first twenty minutes. The Tigers owned a 33-24 lead at the break. The second half saw both squads making big plays and after several ties it was apparent the game would go down to the wire. The Cats got two big baskets from senior Jarred Walker to take a 52-49 lead with nine minutes left. The Tigers then outscored the Wildcats 13-2 to take a 62-54 margin. After CU took a 68-59 lead, the Wildcats fought back to cut the deficit to just two points. The rally came after technical fouls were called on the Tigers. A bit of emotions broke out after a Jon Brown basket that had cut the CU led to 68-61. Foul shots later, the Cats pulled to within two at 68-66. Campbellsville would hold on however and move to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the MSC. The Wildcats dropped to 5-3 and 1-3. CU leads the overall series between the two at 5-2. Bethel shot 24-of-71 from the floor at 33 percent. The Tigers hit 22- of -54 attempts at 42 percent. Both teams struggled from outside hitting five three-pointers each. Campbellsville had a 41-38 rebound advantage. Drew led Bethel with 16 points. Walker and Brown finished with 11 points each. Four Tigers finished in double figures with Malachi De Sousa leading his squad with 15 points.
The Wildcats are averaging 74.5 points per outing. They yield 69.2.
Kamron Rose leads the Cats at 11.1 points per game. Jon Brown pops in 10.7 points per game. Drew Thomas follows at 10.4 points while Jamarius Mayberry is at 10.3 points per outing.
Jarred Walker enters the game with 390 career assists which is 11th all-time in program history. He is 5th all-time in steals with 200.
Combining his play at West Florida and Bethel, Brown is a member of the 1,000 Point Club with 1, 153 career points. Brown has scored 306 as a Wildcat.
Bethel shoots 42 percent from the floor while their opponents are at 42 percent. The Cats are at 33 percent in made three-pointers while the opposition is at 31 percent. Bethel shoots 68 percent from the foul line. The Cats outrebound their opponents 39-31 per outing.
