Bethel Anglers headed to Classic Bracket

COUNCE, Tenn. - Two Bethel University Bass Anglers will be headed to the Classic Bracket competition at the end of September near Junction City Kansas. Levi Mullins and fishing partner Matthew Cummings won second place this past weekend while competing in the Bassmasters Strike King College National Championship. The pair weighed in over 50 pounds of bass during the three-day event with a five fish limit per day to launch the team to a Classic Bracket birth.

Bethel has seen teams from its bass fishing program in the Classic Bracket a total now of six times and an angler from the Wildcats has won the Classic Bracket three of the six appearances. John Garrett won in 2016, Cody Huff won in 2018, and Tristan McCormick won in 2021. During the three-day head-to-head competition, the winning angler will walk away from the Classic Bracket with a brand-new Tundra Truck and a Nitro bass boat to use for a full year both wrapped in their school colors. The winner also gets to represent all of college fishing as he will compete in the prestigious Bassmasters Classic as the only college angler in the world's championship of fishing.

Coach Garry Mason commented, "Bethel University is the only school to have had three anglers win the Classic Bracket and has seen a total of six teams/12 anglers' fish the Classic Bracket in the past. Now two more Bethel anglers will join those ranks as Mullins and Cummings will take a walk across the Classic Bracket stage this year and hopefully one of our guys will get to hoist that Classic Bracket trophy and punch his ticket to the Bassmasters Classic."
