Bethel’s Collazo & Bright Headline 2023 Mid-South Conference Football Awards
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Mid-South Conference officials announced the 2023 All MSC teams and individual award winners on Thursday.
Bethel's (Tenn.) Joaquin Collazo III was voted as the Craig Mullins MSC Offensive Player of the Year, while Georgetown's (Ky.) Chad Holleran is the MSC Defensive Player of the Year.
The individual awards and all-conference teams are selected by a vote of the Football coaches. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players.
In addition to the players of the year, Campbellsville's Ashton Auker in the Offensive Freshman of the Year and Cumberland's (Tenn.) Aaron Davis is the Defensive Freshman of the Year. Georgetown's Chris Oliver is the 2023 Ron Finley Coach of the Year while Bethel's Jay Bright is the Assistant Coach of the Year.
Collazo has completed 70.6 percent of his passes going 218-for-309 while throwing for 3,102 yards and 33 touchdowns. He is averaging 282 yards per game and is averaging 10 yards per attempt. Collazo leads the NAIA in completion percentage, ranks second in yards and touchdowns and fifth in yards per game.
Holleran leads the Tigers with 69 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. He has also forced a fumble and has an interception this season. Holleran's tackles rank sixth in the conference while his tackles for loss are tied for 13th.
Auker caught 32 passes for 409 yards and four touchdowns in his freshman campaign. His four receiving touchdowns were tied for second on the team.
Davis led the Phoenix in tackles with 50 in his freshman season. He ranked second on the team with 5.5 sacks and third with 7.5 tackles for loss. Davis also forced a fumble this season.
Oliver earns Coach of the Year honors for the sixth time in his career. He guided the Tigers to their 21st MSC Regular season championship going 6-0 in the conference and 8-1 overall. Georgetown enters the NAIA Football Championship Series as the No. 4 seed.
Bright leads a Bethel offense that is averaging 451.4 yards per game and scoring 44.6 points per game. The Wildcats rank third in the NAIA in points per game, third in total offense and seventh in yards per game.
