Wildcats Remain on Road Traveling to Campbellsville

COULMBIA, Ky. –Fresh off their 62-0 road win at Faulkner, the No. 9 Bethel Wildcats are back on the road Saturday traveling to Campbellsville. Kick-off versus the Tigers is slated for 1:30 p.m. CT.

Bethel is 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the MSC.  The Tigers are 4-4 and 2-2.

It will be the 20th meeting between the two programs with Campbellsville holding a 10-9 advantage in the series. Bethel won 39-31 last season.

The Match-up:

The No. 9 Wildcats enter the game at 8-1 and 3-1 in MSC action. The Tigers are 4-4 and 2-2.

Bethel is 3-0 on the road this season while the Tigers are 1-3 at home on the year.

Bethel is second in the nation in scoring, averaging 46.8 points per outing.

It will be the 498th game in program history with Bethel's record at 202- 287 -8.

The Wildcats traveled to Montgomery last week and left with a resounding 62- 0 win over the Faulkner Eagles.

 It was a record setting day for Bethel's Joaquin Collazo III as he threw eight touchdown passes. The previous record was held by former Wildcat great Wil Masoud who threw six touchdown passes against Bluefield in 2012.

Collazo was 28-of-36 in the air for 385 yards. 

Five different Wildcats caught passes for scores. J.D Dixon caught three touchdown passes while Jalen Taylor had two receptions for scores. Avont Buris, Will Secker and Tyrell Partee were recipients of Collazo's day as well.

Dixon's three touchdown receptions are tied for second most in a single game.

Bethel spoiled Faulkner's Homecoming early leading 14-0 after the first quarter. The Cats led 28-0 at the half after 49-0 after three quarters. 

Dakota Braswell had a rushing touchdown to cap off Bethel's scoring.

The Cats had 526 yards in total offense. The Wildcat defense dominated the Eagles holding Faulkner to just 87 yards in total offense. 

Darian Burns led the Cats with six total tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Twenty-five different Wildcats had tackles in the win.

 The Wildcats moved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in league play. Faulkner lost their fifth straight and dropped to 1-7. The Eagles are 0-5 in the MSC.

Campbellsville:

 On Saturday night, the Tigers hosted University of the Cumberlands Patriots at Finley Stadium .

Turnovers proved to be the difference maker with Campbellsville coughing up the ball five times when all was said and done. The Tigers lost 41-38.

Coaches:

Michael Jasper is in his fifth year as head coach of the Wildcats. Coach Jasper also serves as Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations.

Before becoming the head coach, Jasper served as Assistant Head Coach and worked with the defensive line. Prior to that he held the titles of Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator, as well as overseeing the strength and conditioning program.

The Wildcats were 11-1 last year. Jasper picked up his first conference coach of the year honor after guiding Bethel to its sixth overall title. The undefeated regular season was the first in program history. Bethel was ranked No. 4 in the national poll. Coach Jasper was named NAIA Region 1 Coach of the Year.

Coach Jasper's career record is 34 -16 overall and 21-13 in conference play. Before joining the Bethel staff, Jasper served as Offensive and Defensive Line Assistant at Bishop Timon High School in Buffalo, N.Y. Mike spent three years in the National Football League with the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants and Carolina Panthers.

Coach Jasper played for the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2005 and was a starter on their 2006 Ohio Valley Conference championship team. After redshirting at Middle Tennessee State University,
Coach Jasper joined the Bethel University Wildcats and was an offensive and defensive lineman from 2008-2010. He was the first-ever Wildcat drafted to the NFL in 2011 with his selection by the Buffalo
Bills.

He graduated from Bethel University with a bachelors degree in university studies. Mike and his wife Allison, along with their children Davis Reid, Millie Claire and Samuel David reside in McKenzie.
Their rescue dog is named Caine.

Jacob Russell is taking the reigns as the next head coach for the Campbellsville Fighting Tiger football team. Russell is a 2016 graduate of Campbellsville University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management. He was a member of the Fighting Tiger Football team for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

He is second in program history in career passing yards at 6,703 and second in career passing touchdowns at 66. He also holds the program record for passing touchdowns in a single season, throwing 38 touchdown passes in 2015.

Russell most recently served as head coach for the Kentucky Christian University Knights football team. Under his direction, the Knights improved nationally in every major offensive statistical category from Russell's first season to his second season. The Knights also finished with the second most points and yards in program history in the 2022 season.

  • Joaquin Collazo was named the MSC Offensive Player of the Week again this past week. It is the fourth time this season and eighth time of his career he has captured the award. Collazo set a new school record with eight touchdowns last week at Faulkner.
  • Collazo was also named the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week.
  • Three other Wildcats have won the award this season. Demetrice GilbertJaylen Taylor and Andrew Welch were named Player of the Week earlier this season. 
  • Coach Michael Jasper was among those inducted into Bethel's Athletic Hall of Fame earlier this year.
