Football Cats Deliver another Road Win

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. –The Bethel Wildcats made it two wins in a row with a 39-14 win at Campbellsville Friday night. The Wildcats (2-0, 2-0) handed the Tigers (1-2, 1-2) their second loss of the season.

It marked the third straight win for Bethel in the series. In a strange twist between the two, Bethel is 1-7 against the Tigers in games played in McKenzie and 6-3 in games played in Campbellsville.

It was the second of a seven game season with all the games being MSC Bluegrass Division affairs.

How it happened:

The Wildcats took a 6-0 lead on an Anthony Hughes two-yard run at the 11:36 mark of the first quarter. Rodrigo Campos knocked in the point after to give the Cats a 7-0 lead. The score capped off an 11 play 64 yard drive. Bethel's De'Ontay Tate scored on an 11 yard run at the 10:44 mark of the second to give Bethel a 13-0 advantage. The Campos point after was blocked. After a big defensive stop by the Wildcats, the offense struck again on a 26-yard TD pass from Jacob Murphree to Kenny Williams with 1:14 left in the second. Campos hit a 33 yard field goal early in the third quarter to give Bethel a 23-0 margin. After a CU touchdown pass from Chase Elmore to Paul McCown, the Cats answered with a touchdown pass from Murphree to Avont Burrus. After the point after failed, the Wildcats led 29-7 at the end of three. A 41- yard field goal by Campos and a one-yard touchdown run by Hughes in the fourth quarter gave Bethel a 39-7 margin. The Tigers would score in the last minute and Bethel would win 39-14.

For the second week in a row, the Bethel defensive and offensive lines were outstanding. Darian Burns and Jakobe Griffin led the Wildcats with nine total tackles each. Jerwin Young had 3.5 sacks. For the second week in a row Bethel's Devious Christmon had an interception.

Coach Michael Jasper commented, "I'm excited to come out with another win. We are disappointed in some execution and clock management there late, but that's on me and I'll be better. These kids played hard and smart. The coaching staff had a great week getting these guys ready to go once again. I'm ready to be home, in front of our family, friends, and the rest of The Pride."

The Wildcats face The University of the Cumberlands next week in their home opener. The game is set for Friday at Wildcat Stadium with kick-off slated for 7 p.m. It will be the 8th meeting between the two with the Patriots having a 5-2 margin in the series. Last year's 49-21 Patriot victory marked the third straight win for Cumberlands in the series.
