Cheer Cats Finish Seventh in MSC Championship-Lacy Murphy Named 1st Team A/C

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –Cumberlands (Ky.) captured the 2024 Mid-South Conference Cheerleading Championship on Saturday at Bowling Green Arena in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

This year's competition was comprised of two rounds. The first round was a preliminary worth 25 percent of the overall championship score while the second round was a finals round worth 75 percent of the total score.

The Patriots garnered their fourth overall conference championship and first since 2019. Cumberlands gathered a total of 93.66 points to solidify the victory. With the championship, The Patriots earn an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships which will take place on March 29-30 in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Georgetown's (Ky.) Sydney West was named the MSC Cheerleader of the Year while Isaac Harder earned Freshman of the Year honors. Cumberland's (Tenn.) Jessica Cain was voted the MSC Coach of the Year while Krestyn Kearney earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors.

As for the rest of the team results, Georgetown earned 92.04 total points followed by Midway (Ky.) with a total of 81.49 points, earning a third-place finish.

Pikeville (Ky.) gathered 80.97 points for fourth place while Cumberland finished fifth with 80.73 total points. Campbellsville (Ky.) finished sixth overall with 80.11 points.

Bethel (Tenn.) finished seventh in the event with a score of 74.27 followed by Lindsey Wilson in eighth with 70.45 points while Brescia (Ky.) was 10th with 61.67 points.

All-Conference teams were determined before the championships with the tryouts taking place at each member institution. Coaches submitted tryout videos to judges to score and decide All-Conference selections.

Bethel's Lacy Murphy was named 1st Team All-Conference.
