Pitching Coach/Head Field Crew

Coach Nick Thompson enters his 17th season with Bethel baseball in 2023-24. Originally from Savannah, TN, Coach Thompson is a 2000 graduate of Hardin County High School where he set many individual pitching records for the Tigers baseball team. After high school, Nick received an offer to play ball for the Atlanta Braves but decided to play for the legendary Coach Jim Painter at Columbia State Community College. At Columbia State, he was 1st team All-State both as a pitcher and Shortstop. After two years at Columbia State, he signed to play for now Hall of Fame Coach Woody Hunt at Cumberland University. Nick helped lead the team to the school’s first ever, and the state’s first-ever Baseball National Championship in 2004. After college, Nick went on to pitch three years in the Chicago Cubs organization before coming to coach at Bethel University. During his tenure as pitching coach, Nick has had five players move on to the professional level. Nick is the son of Richard and Kathy Thompson of Savannah, Tenn. Nick and his wife Lauren reside in McKenzie.
