Lions Sweep Cats in Twin Bill

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman Lions ran their winning streak to seven in a row with a doubleheader sweep of the Bethel Wildcats Monday afternoon in McKenzie. The Wildcats saw their losing streak reach six in a row falling 8-6 in each game.

Bethel dropped to 14-16 overall and 2-8 in the MSC.

The Lions moved to 24-14 and 5-3.

The Cats led 4-3 after six innings in game one. The Lions plated five runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-4 lead. Jared Hall hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn't enough. Juan Diego Ramos hit a two-run homer earlier in the game. Zach Griffith and Luis Aristud accounted for single RBI's.

FHU outhit the Wildcats 11-9. Wyatt McKee took the Wildcat loss.

It was another Freed comeback in game two. The Cats led 4-2 after five innings. The Lions scored five runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-4 margin. Ivan Vega slugged a two-run homer in the eighth. The Lions added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to win 8-6.

Hall hit a solo shot early in the game. He added another RBI in the game. Griffith and Jack Beck also drove in a run for the Wildcats. Matt Ray suffered the Wildcat loss.

The squads complete the series on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
