Bat Cats Rally and Beat Campbellsville in Elimination Game

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After losing 5-2 to Georgetown Saturday morning, the Bethel Wildcats rallied late in their elimination game against Campbellsville Saturday afternoon to beat the Tigers 8-7 and stay alive in the Mid-South Conference tournament in Bowling Green.

The afternoon game versus Campbellsville was truly a survive and advance affair for the Wildcats.

After Campbellsville scored three runs in the first inning, the Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Noah Hawkins and Zach Griffith drove in runs to make it 3-2 after one.

The Cats took a 4-3 lead in the third. Jared Hall scored on a Tiger error. Ivan Vega drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single.

The Tigers regained the lead with a two-run fourth inning.

Bethel snapped back with two runs of their own in the sixth. Adriel Vega drove in a run and scored later on a Tigers miscue. The Wildcats led 6-5 after six.

Campbellsville tied the game with a single run in the seventh and then took the lead with another run in the eighth.

The never give up Cats rallied in the eighth as Adriel Vega singled, Bryan Catala followed with a single and advanced on the Tiger throw. With runners at second and third, Hall was intentionally walked to load the bases. Juan Diego Ramos tied the game with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Noah Foster gave the Cats an 8-7 lead with an RBI single.

Alexis Rodriguez set the Tigers down one, two three in the top of the ninth and the Cats survived to move on to play Sunday.

Bethel outhit CU 12-11. The Vega brothers combined for six of the Bethel 12 hits.

The Tigers committed five errors in the game.

Rodriguez picked up the victory while Logan MacNeil suffered the Tiger loss.

The Tigers finished their season at 23-21. The Wildcats improved to 32-13.

 

 The Wildcats face Georgetown Sunday at 11 a.m. in another elimination game.
