
Bat Cats Fall to No. 12 Patriots in Williamsburg
WIILIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Bethel Wildcats and the University of the Cumberlands met in a doubleheader in Williamsburg Thursday afternoon. The No. 12 Patriots won both games taking game one 5-4 in eight innings and 6-0 in the nightcap.
The Cats took an early lead in game one scoring in the first inning. Bryan Catala's single drove in Noah Foster to put the Cats up 1-0. The Patriots tied the game in the bottom of the inning. J T Morgan homered in the top of the second to give Bethel another one-run lead at 2-1. The Pats scored two runs in the bottom of the second to lead 3-2. UC scored a single run in the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage. Bethel rallied in the top of the seventh with RBI's by Foster and Ivan Vega. With the scored tied at four, the Patriots won on an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth. The Wildcats were outhit 11-6 and committed four errors in the game. Morgan and Vega led Bethel with two hits each. Ryan White suffered the Wildcat loss while Chipper Korbacher picked up the UC win.
In game two, the Patriots scored single runs in the third and sixth innings. Their four runs in the fourth enabled them to cruise to the 6-0 victory. Bethel outhit the Pats 9-8 but was unable to get key hits when they needed them. Adriel Vega, Aidan Morris and Catala led Bethel with two hits each. Tyler Proctor took the loss for the Wildcats while Garrett De Clue picked his fifth win of the year for UC.
Bethel dropped to 8-17 overall and 5-6 in the MSC. UC moved to 21-4 and 8-3.
The teams play a single game Friday. Action begins at 2 p.m. CST
