Late Inning Rally Allows Wildcats to Split Doubleheader at UTS

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats and the UT Southern FireHawks split their doubleheader Friday afternoon in Pulaski. UTS rallied in game one to win 2-1. The Wildcats used late inning runs to capture game two 5-3.

In a low scoring affair in a game one, the Wildcats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Ivan Vega drew a bases loaded walk. UTS would score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 2-1. The Wildcats outhit the Hawks 6-5 but left eleven runners stranded in the game.

Alexis Rodriquez pitched well giving up just five hits but was charged with the tough luck loss. Nathan Curtis went the distance and picked up the win for UTS.

The FireHawks scored a run in the bottom of the second in game two.

J T Morgan hit a two-run homer in the second to erase the Bethel deficit as the Cats took a 2-1 lead.

The Hawks retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs to take a 3-2 lead.

Bethel scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to tie and then take a 4-3 lead. Luis Aristud had an RBI double in the seventh. Vega doubled in a run in the eighth.

Aristud added another RBI with a single in the ninth to give the Cats a 5-3 lead and eventually the two-run win.

Bethel outhit the FireHawks 10-4.

Marco Santa pitched six strong innings, but Ryan White picked up the win allowing no runs and just one hit in three innings of relief. Drew Bailey suffered the UTS loss.

With the victory, Bethel snapped a five-game losing streak and finished the day at 11-21 and 9-13 in the MSC. UTS is 13-26 and 4-15.

The squads will meet again Saturday for a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
