Bat Cats Drop Series Finale to Georgetown
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats dropped the series finale to Georgetown Sunday afternoon, falling 8-1 to the visiting Tigers. The teams split their two games played on Saturday.
The Tigers led 1-0 after two. Georgetown broke the game open with a six run fourth inning. The visitors from Kentucky added a lone run in the seventh.
Bethel's lone run came in the fifth on an RBI single by Kendrick Osborne.
The Tigers outhit Bethel 7-4.
David Baer suffered the loss.
Coach Rusty Thompson said, "I felt like we competed well yesterday but today we just let things get away from us in the fourth. We had decent approaches at the plate and put a lot of hard-hit balls in play, but you have to give GC credit for making a lot of plays defensively. Normally when you look at your box score and only see a couple of strikeouts you think you would see a lot of hits and hopefully runs, but that just wasn't the case." Thompson added, "We made some defensive blunders that cost us runs and they made a few as well but the big difference was they were able to work out of it and we didn't. Ryan White came in and completed the game and did a great job through that second half of the game. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get enough balls to drop. We hope we can learn from our mistakes this weekend and be better in the coming weeks. We still have a way to go but looking at the overall weekend I feel we are progressing well in some areas and in the others, we just have to work hard and do better moving forward."
Bethel dropped to 3-6 and 1-2. The Tigers improved to 8-3 and 2-1.
Bethel's scheduled home game on Tuesday with Missouri Baptist has been postponed. No date has been set at this time on when the game will be played.
