Cats Fall to UTM in Exhibition in Martin
MARTIN, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats shot 47 percent (30-64) from the field Tuesday in their exhibition at UTM. Normally that is good enough to win but it wasn't enough against the SkyHawks who shot 50 percent (35-70) enroute to a 103-75 victory over the Cats. The Hawks hit 17 three-pointers while Bethel hit only four treys.
The exhibition was deemed as the "UTM Character Counts" game with approximately 3,400 students from 20 different local elementary, middle and high schools in attendance.
UTM scored the last seven points of the first half to lead 52-32 at the half. The SkyHawks took control of the game with a 9-0 outburst to open the second half.
UTM forced the Wildcats into 16 turnovers. The SkyHawks had a 26-10 advantage in points off turnovers and outrebounded the Wildcats 41-34.
Connor Guthrie led Bethel with 20 points. Querrion Gadson followed with 14 points while Jose Nazario finished with 13 points.
UTM was led by Parker Stewart who had a game high 23 points.
Coach Jeff Britt stated in his postgame radio interview, "This was a good experience for our guys. UTM is a talented and well coached squad. They did a good job attacking us and we had problems staying in front of their quick guards. Connor played well and for the most part we hung in there at times. We will go back home and prepare for two key MSC games at home Thursday and Saturday."
The Cats play host to Wilberforce Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
