Cats & Lions Tangle in Henderson Monday

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Bethel Wildcats begin the second portion of their season Monday visiting Freed-Hardeman. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. in Henderson.

  The Cats sport an 9-5 overall mark and will re-enter MSC play at 1-5. FHU is 9-4 and 4-2.

The Wildcats are 2-3 in road play while the Lions are 5-2 at home on the year. The game will be the first of three straight road games for Bethel. The Cats have eight remaining road games on the season.

It will be the 78th game between the two programs with FHU holding a 40-37 margin in the series. The last meeting was a MSC tournament match-up in Henderson back in the spring which resulted in a Lion victory.

After the three road games, Bethel returns home for four straight home games. The Cats play eight home games the remainder of the season. The Lady Cats are 113-34 all-time in Crisp Arena.

All sixteen games remaining are conference games.

The Wildcats are averaging 78.1 points and yielding 67.7 points per outing.

Jon Brown leads the Wildcats in scoring at 11.7 points per game. Drew Thomas follows at 11.4 while Jamarius Mayberry is good for 11.1 points per contest. Kamron Rose also averages in double figures at 10.9.

Bethel shoots 45 percent from the field while their opponents are at 41 percent from the floor. Bethel hits 35 percent of their three-point attempts. The opponents are at 29 percent. Bethel shoots 68 percent from the foul line while opponents shoot 63 percent.

Bethel has a 40-29 advantage in out rebounding their opponents per outing.  The Cats are 7-2 when outrebounding their opponents. 

When the Cats return for the second half, senior Jarred Walker will enter play with 385 career assists and 197 career steals. Walker is 11th in program history in assists and 5th in career steals. Jon Brown returns to the court with 1, 148 career points. He has 284 of those points as a Wildcat. 

Coach Jeff Britt is in his 22nd year at Bethel and has a mark of 384-291 with the Wildcats. He has 490 career wins and is 10th among active coaches in the NAIA. Britt has 11 seasons with 20-plus wins as head coach of the Cats. 

Freed puts up 82.5 points per game and yields 76.1 per outing.

The Lions are led in scoring by senior Kortland Martin who averages 20.4 points per game. Four other players average nine points or more per game.

The Lions are outrebounded 34-31 per game.

Drew Stutts is in his third year as head coach of the Lions.
