WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. -In a tough road matchup against Williams Baptist, the Bethel Lady Wildcats fell 3-1 despite a spirited performance. The game, played at WBU Soccer Field in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, saw the home team take control early, and despite a late goal from Bethel, the Wildcats were unable to mount a comeback.

Bethel dropped to 1-6 while WBU improved to 7-2 on the season.  

First Period: Early Deficit

Williams Baptist came out aggressive, scoring three goals in the first 35 minutes of the game. The first came in the 17th minute when Yajaira Alvarado found the back of the net with an assist from Megan Sharp. Just eight minutes later, Alvarado struck again, this time with an assist from Valentina Marin to make it 2-0.

Bethel didn't back down, and Jacqueline Carbajal gave the Wildcats a spark in the 34th minute, scoring a goal assisted by Anahi Tagle, narrowing the gap to 2-1. However, just 44 seconds after Bethel's goal, Williams Baptist responded with a third goal from Mackenzie Souers, assisted by Alvarado, to restore their two-goal advantage, 3-1.

Second Period: No Scoring but Solid Effort

The second half saw both teams struggle to find the back of the net, despite Bethel's 20-shot onslaught. The Wildcats fired 20 shots, with Jacqueline Carbajal leading the way with 4 shots, but Nevaeh Larkins, the Williams Baptist goalkeeper, was exceptional, saving 15 shots and denying Bethel any chance of equalizing.

Bethel's defense was also strong in the second half, limiting Williams Baptist to just one shot on goal, but the damage had already been done. Despite creating multiple opportunities, Bethel's offense could not break through.

  • Viviana Villalobos was a standout for Bethel, scoring the team's lone goal.
  • Alba Lopez Guerrero played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wildcats, recording three saves, though she faced a barrage of shots from Williams Baptist.
