
Lady Cats Drop Overtime Affair at Cumberland University
LEBANON, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats dropped a heartbreaker in Lebanon Saturday afternoon, falling to the Cumberland Phoenix 61-53 in overtime.
Bethel led 15-10 after the first quarter but the Phoenix fought back to lead 29-27 at halftime. Both teams scored ten points each in the third quarter. Bethel outscored the Phoenix 12-10 in the final frame. A Wildcat turnover and two CU free throws knotted the game in the closing seconds of regulation. The teams went to overtime tied at 49-49. CU had a 12-4 margin in overtime to win by eight.
In a very physical affair, both teams struggled from the floor. Bethel was 18-of-60 at 30 percent. Cumberland was 19-of- 61 at 31 percent. The Cats hit nine threes of 33 attempts from deep. The Phoenix connected on five of 24 three-point attempts. Bethel hit eight of 10 free throw tries while CU hit 18 -of -22 attempts from the line.
CU had a 47-40 advantage in rebounds. The Cats had a 21-9 margin in points off the bench.
Bethel's Madison Hart had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Anaya Patterson finished with 11 points.
Cumberland's Lindsey Freeman had a game high 18 points.
Bethel fell to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in the MSC. CU moved to 8-3 and 5-2.
The Lady Cats are back in action Thursday hosting Wilberforce at 5:30 p.m.
