Bio

Coach Spelman comes to Bethel with a great deal of playing and coaching experience across the collegiate and youth levels. As a player growing up, Spelman won the Disney Cup, two state championships and competed in top international tournaments such as the Gothia Cup and Dana Cup. In college, Spelman played for Eastern New Mexico University and Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College where he was selected as an ACCA All- American. 

Spelman’s coaching career has been full of accomplishments thus far. He started out in the youth ranks at Moore High School where the Lion Boys qualified for the 6A playoffs for the first time in 18 years, maintained consecutive winning records, earned three  academic achievement awards, and saw numerous players named to all- conference and all -state teams. Showing initiative, Spelman also established skills clinics attended by young players from all over the OKC Metro and created a special education soccer program. In addition, to coaching high school, Spelman was the Academy Director with the Midwest City Soccer Club. Most recently, Spelman was a GA with the Men’s Soccer Program at Iowa Lakes Community College. At Iowa Lakes, Spelman led the reserve squad to an 81.1% win percentage and worked with the first team that was nationally ranked throughout the season. 

Sheldon currently holds numerous coaching licenses, including his USSF “E”, “D”, and “C”. Spelman is also a member of the United Soccer Coaches organization.
