Cat Comeback Comes Up Short

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Soccer fans were treated to a NAIA Top 25 match-up Saturday night in McKenzie. The No. 23 Bethel Wildcats played host to No. 15 the University of the Cumberlands Patriots.

Despite outshooting the visitors from Kentucky 16-8, the Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season, falling 2-1.

The Patriots scored their two goals in the second period before Bethel's Alioune Diop scored at the 86:40 mark. The Cat comeback fell short as the Pats moved to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the MSC. Bethel dropped to 5-1-2 and 1-1.

The Wildcats had a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal.

Joseph Soriano had the assist on the Diop goal. Bethel's Norberto Lima Vieira had four saves in the match. UC's Pablo Vazquez was huge for the Pats with nine saves. Antonis Seraphides and Stephen Appiah had the two goals for UC.

The Cats return to action Wednesday hosting UT Southern at 7:30 p.m.
