Wildcats Put Up Impressive Performances in MSC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Cumberlands (Ky.) won the 2024 Mid-South Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Monday.

The Patriots tallied 279 points over the two-day event to capture the championship. Campbellsville (Ky.) finished runner-up with 185.50 points while Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) tallied 134 points to finish third.

Cumberland (Tenn.) was fourth with 133 points while Bethel (Tenn.) totaled 45 points to finish fifth. Georgetown (Ky.) and Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) round out the team standings with 41.50 and 35 points, respectively.

Cumberlands swept the individual honors following the conclusion of the championship. Iloba Godspower was named the MSC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Bradley Sowder was voted the MSC Coach of the Year while DeShawn Marshall earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors.

In addition to first-team all-conference, student-athletes who finished second earned second-team all-conference while third place earns third-team all-conference.

The Bethel Wildcats had some impressive performances.

Joseph Skoog won the 5k with a time of 14:42, beating the rest of the field by almost a minute. His performance earned Skoog first team all-conference status. Stetson Childress was 3rd and finished 3rd team all-conference with a 15:42. Cedrion Cook was 5th with 16:13 and Hayden Padgett was 11th with 17:37. In the 400-meter dash freshman San'Darius Coleman finished 3rd and became 3rd team all-conference with a 49.20.

Ariel Devoto finished 8th in the men's 800 with a 1:58.

In the men's shot-put Lee Steakley broke the school record and finished 4th with a 14.45 throw.

Hendrix Calhoun finished 6th with a 13.40 and Hayden Jenkins finished 11th with a 12.12.

In the discus throw, Lee Steakley had another 4th place finish throwing 42.45 meters. Hayden Jenkins finished 11th with a 34.15.

Coach Brandon Kilburn commented, "I am super proud of these guys for their efforts and performances. We had a very successful track season. We were able to break numerous school records and even a few conference records between indoor and outdoor. We will now get ready for the NAIA National Championships May 22-24 in Marion, Indiana. Skoog qualified in the 1500 and 5000. Coleman qualified in the 400-meter dash.
